Summer Camp Results

Here are the results from the troop’s week at Summer Camp:

Troop 368 won Ultimate Frisbee, Honor Troop and the Water Carnival !!!
Mr Smith won the Scout Leader Cook-Off.
Evan Woo came in second and Thomas Fleming came in Third in the camp-wide chess tournament.
The troop placed 4th in clean campsite award for the week (the troop had 4 perfect days and one almost perfect day).

Happy Summer!

Hope you are enjoying your free days. We have something great for you for one of those free days. Saturday, June 11th, we will offer the First Aid Merit Badge and CPR certification to all of our new Scouts. The details are below. It is a wonderful opportunity to knock out a big Eagle badge in one day, so go for it! Let me know as soon as you can whether or not you can attend. We must have enough instructors for all of you to be well trained.

Philmont Adventure

Mr. Mark Fleming, our esteemed ex-Scoutmaster, is leading a patrol of 1o of our scouts and adult leaders to Philmont this summer. The group has participated in several camp outs and hikes over the last few months to prepare for the June 27 – July 9 trip. All the younger scouts can look forward to future high-adventure trips once they meet the BSA minimum age 14 requirement.

For those unfamiliar with Philmont Scout Ranch, it is 137,000 acres of rugged mountain wilderness in northern New Mexico. It has 34 separate staffed camps offering a fantastic assortment of program activities, plus 55 unstaffed back-country camps. Scouts can enjoy shotguns, black powder rifles, fly fishing, search and rescue, horseback riding, rock climbing and rappelling, mountain biking, panning for gold, blacksmithing, and more. Philmont serves 22,000 scouters each year from across the country. A patrol from Troop 368 goes to Philmont every odd year, and to either Sea Base or Northern Tier every even year.

We salute Mr. Fleming and everyone in his group heading to Philmont for a fantastic experience. We hope they return with plenty of photos to prove they actually went, and weren’t just sitting poolside at the Hilton the whole time, sipping pina coladas and eating jumbo shrimp cocktails.

Nelson Carney Now at Home

Nelson is home from the hospital and recovering. Thank each and all of you for your prayers and concerns. I have already known, but the last couple of days has proven again and again, that Troop 368 is a marvelous family. Your support during what has been a frightening and overwhelming experience has been invaluable. Thank you.

I want to pass this along to everyone:

Nelson Carney was in a bad accident on Tuesday.

Here are the details from Mr. Carney:

“Nelson had a car accident 5:00 pm Tuesday afternoon. I (Mr. Carney) spent all night Tuesday and all day yesterday at The Med. Nelson was in surgery yesterday morning at 6:00. He will be fine, thank God. He was very, very lucky. He was turning left from Mullins Station onto Macon and was T-boned by an oncoming car on Macon, hitting the driver’s side of Nelson’s car. Nelson has a deep lacerated puncture wound under his left armpit and a fracture on the scapula. Amazing coincidence, Jason Steed was the ER nurse so we had great treatment at The Med.

We think Nelson will be discharged from the hospital Friday so he can go get senior pictures (in bandages and a sling) on Friday at Lausanne.”

Please include Nelson and the entire Carney family in your prayers.
