May Campout at Old Kia Kima

We enjoyed wonderful weather with NO RAIN for a great campout at Old Kia Kima last weekend.  The younger scouts knocked out their Scoutcraft requirements, we had some good meals and a show, and scouts got to canoe on a swollen Spring River.

The Varmint Patrol ate well once again.  Saturday dinner was London broil, mashed potatoes, dutch oven broccoli casserole, warm French bread, and salad.  We really pigged out, to be totally honest.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it a great weekend.

The Old Kia Kima campground has excellent facilities that are well maintained.  We appreciate the hospitality of Rob Driesel, head volunteer there, and his crew of dedicated scouts.  Maybe our scouts will want to make this an annual campout on the Troop 368 calendar.

And major props to Frank Carney, the Energizer Bunny.  He was doing three or four things simultaneously from first light till after dinner cobblers.  Then about 10pm Saturday he drove back home for a Sunday morning appointment!  We sincerely appreciate Mr. Carney’s tireless work on this trip.

You can view pics from the trip here.

Please download the May 2011 activity sheet  for the campout at Old Kia Kima in Cherokee, AR, near Hardy, AR.

Please print, fill out, sign and turn in at the next meeting or as soon as possible. Blank forms will be at the meetings.

Order of Arrow candidates and parents, please see the next message to be sent later in the day. The ordeal has been planned for the same weekend at the Kia Kima Scout Reservation in Hardy, AR, which simplifies previous transportation challenges, but obviously elimates participation with the troop at Old Kia Kima.

Also, be on the look out for the Summer Camp permission slip which should be out soon, but let Dave Cline know that you plan to attend and give him your choices of merit badges and/or course selection as soon as possible.

Wilderness Campout Review

The report from the scene of the Wilderness Campout 2010 indicated it was a great time, even though Mother Nature didn’t fully cooperate.  Even so, the boys and Dads were able to make some awesome wilderness shelters out of natural materials on the Moore Farm.  Take a look at the pictures uploaded to the Flickr site and displayed on this page to the right.  Just click More Photos at the bottom of the page photos and it should navigate to the Troop 368 Flickr page.
Thanks to the boys and Dads who came and helped to make the Weblos welcome, and who voted that Troop 368 was indeed THE BEST IN THE STATE.
